"When I got the idea of buying my first house, it seems like I already knew it was going to be a great decision. I had been waiting for so long to walk out the front door onto my own yard and say “This is my house!” After years of saving, the time finally arrived to seriously consider starting the buying process. For me, it was like a Christmas that I had been waiting on for three years. I felt like that kid who had been mowing yards all summer just to afford that bicycle he really wanted. It was finally time to buy my bicycle. I loosely began looking on the internet and checking neighborhoods on my own to just get an idea of what kind of price range and house I could afford. I have had plenty of friends and people I knew that had purchased homes before, and it seemed like it was an easy enough process. Turns out it is a lot more complicated. After a month or so of loose house looking in many different neighbor hoods, I got an email for a first time home buying seminar hosted by Keller Williams and Land Mortgage. I decided to attend and that’s when I met Janet. I was hesitant to begin using a realtor right then because I was planning on closing in five months, which seemed so far away at the time. She offered to send me listings if I would e-mail her some of the amenities I was looking for in a house. I was so surprised with the first e-mail I received. Not only were there so many great houses available, they were all in my price range! I couldn’t help but to ask myself, “Where were all these houses when I was out looking?” When I was ready to go out and look at some of the houses, I was surprised how Janet really took a lot of time to really get to know me as a person. After a couple of weeks she not only knew about everything I was looking for in a house, but also why I wanted all the things. In a matter of months, my house search had changed from a broad, almost blind safari all over Austin into a focused search over a handful of neighborhoods. It was amazing how the whole process had become so much easier after I started working with Janet. It was really a night and day difference. Janet's knowledge and expertise really showed when it came down to negotiation part of the buying process. She took the time to explain the whole process to me and handled all the MANY details of contracts. I considered myself pretty knowledgeable about home purchases at the beginning, but during negotiations and contracts I realized how naive I was about everything. It was a long process, but in the end I ended up with a great house just in time for the home tax credit. It turns out the five months that I thought was a long time blew by so fast that I barely closed in time! Looking back, I couldn’t imagine what it would have been like buying my first home without the help of Janet. I know there are a lot of realtors out there and from what I understand, most would just love to sell you something quick so they can move on to their next client. During the whole process, I really felt like I had a partner rather than a sales person. She really cared about what I was looking for and was there every step of the way. If I had to give any advice to someone looking to buy a house, it would be to find someone who really has experience, who knows the market, and who genuinely has your best interest in mind.
